#TuksFootball: TUT upstage UP-Tuks at home

Posted on July 25, 2016

UP-Tuks succumbed to a 1–0 defeat at the hands of cross-town rivals, the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), on a cold evening (Monday, 25 July 2016) at the Tuks Stadium.

The first half started off very tense with the ball being played mainly in the midfield area. UP-Tuks controlled most of the possession but did not create any opportunities to score in the first ten minutes. Frank Mpedi got the first chance of the match through a glancing header that went inches wide of the mark in the 13th minute.

Mogau Khwinana dribbled past Rorisang Rapelang but his effort was parried away by Dumisani Msibi. Frank Mpedi dribbled past Elliot Seema but his curling effort went agonisingly wide. TUT opened the scoring in the 43rd minute with a tap-in by Jacob Hlalele. The goal summed up the first half and the hosts went into halftime trailing 1–0.

Frank Mpedi posed a threat to TUT in the second half with his mobility but he dragged his shot wide in the 50th minute. TUT maintained a great formation at the back with five defenders protecting their narrow lead.

Claudio De Almeida managed to get the ball past two defenders and crossed to Frank Mpedi whose tame header was handled well by Dumisani Msibi. UP-Tuks began to increase their tempo in pursuit of that second goal but were continuously thwarted by the resolute TUT defence. Mbongeni Masilela had an opportunity to level the score but his shot went over, much to the dismay of the home fans.

TUT held their lead to beat their fierce rivals for their second win of this campaign.
