#TuksFootball: Stalemate in Cape Town opener

Posted on July 18, 2016

UP-Tuks and defending champions UWC played out to a 1-1 draw on a cold evening at the UWC Sports Stadium.

The men from Pretoria opened the scoring through a header by Captain Simbongile Njokwe who latched onto a well whipped corner by debutant Mogau Khwinana. The visitors were rejuvenated by their early goal as they began to control the encounter with their swift passing but their finishing let them down.

The home side struggled to break down the rigid shape of the two-time champions and they resorted to long balls to their target man Josh Silent, but he was thwarted by the aerial prowess of the UP-Tuks defence. The reigning champions went into halftime trailing 1-0.

It was evident which coach gave the better team talk during the break as the hosts lifted their game in the second half and they would soon be rewarded for their impetus with a fine header by Suhayl Allie to level matters.

It looked as if both teams were content with just one goal as they offset each other to the end of the game, with each team receiving a point.
