Saturday, 3 September is International Vulture Awareness Day and therefore the monthly Birdlife meeting has been dedicated to Vulture Conservation Awareness.

The challenge to Conserve Africa's Vultures

Vultures have intrinsic value and maintain habitats free of carcasses and waste. Unfortunately, in Africa vultures face many threats, and their populations have declined at devastating rates of between 70% and 97% (92% or worse in 5 species) over a period of three generations. This issue requires urgent attention to tackle its magnitude and complexity. This talk by Andre Botha will look at the current situation and the efforts of conservationists to ensure that vultures continue to grace the skies over the African continent into the future.

The Raffle winners for the Vulture Paintings will be announced at the conclusion of the event and all proceeds will be donated to Vulture Awereness.
