Working Group Meeting on the Draft Guidelines on Access to Information and Elections for Africa

On 29 and 30 August 2017, the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria in collaboration with the Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression and Access to Information in Africa of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), Commissioner Pansy Tlakula, organised a meeting of the members of the Working Group on the draft ‘Guidelines on Access to Information and Elections for Africa’ (Draft Guidelines). 

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss comments received on the draft guidelines from the sub-regional consultations in Mozambique and Kenya,as well as those received electronically in response to the public call for comments. Over the two days, Working Group members discussed extensively and agreed on key principles to guide amendments to the working text. Once finalised, it is expected that the Draft Guidelines will be presented to the ACHPR for adoption during its November 2017 Ordinary Session, scheduled to take place in from 1 to 15 November in Banjul, the Gambia.
