TuksLaw produces Rhodes Scholarship superstars year after year after year

Posted on September 28, 2015

The Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria is proud to have delivered three Rhodes Scholars over the past three years.  ‘This hat-trick is a feat of note for the individuals and TuksLaw, given the competition surrounding the allocation of the prestigious and most sought-after Rhodes Scholarship’ stated a very proud Dean André Boraine. ‘This clearly is a confirmation of what we have known all along – how highly sought after our graduates are, locally and on foreign soil.  At TuksLaw we equip them with the necessary legal skills and provide and support the appropriate platforms to promote themselves.  Here they created their own successes by excelling academically and on many other levels.  Their discipline, consistency, hard work and dedication was duly rewarded’.

Nomfundo Priscah Ramalekana recently joined the 2015 Rhodes programme at Oxford.  She obtained an LLB at the University of Pretoria in 2013, being one of the many all-rounded graduates the Faculty of Law continuously delivers.  After graduating, Nomfundo served articles of clerkship and has now settled in at Oxford to take up the scholarship.  ‘I plan to do a Bachelor of Civil Laws (BCL), focusing primarily on comparative competition and equality law’ an elated Nomfundo said during a visit with returning Rhodes Scholar Fadzai Madzingira (2014) to TuksLaw shortly before her departure for the United Kingdom.

Khomotoso Mashikaro (2013), who also recently returned from the UK, visited his alma mater in September.

The Rhodes Scholarships are postgraduate awards supporting outstanding all-round students at the University of Oxford, and providing transformative opportunities for exceptional individuals.  The Rhodes Trust,  in partnership with Second Century Founder, John McCall MacBain and other generous benefactors, provides the Rhodes Scholarships. Closing the circle, the Rhodes Trust partnered with Nelson Mandela in 2003 to form the Mandela Rhodes Foundation. Established in 1903 under the will of Cecil Rhodes, the scholarship is the oldest and perhaps the most prestigious international graduate scholarship programme in the world.
