TuksLaw celebrates new SARChI Chair in International Constitutional Law

The Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria recently celebrated the appointment of Prof Erika de Wet, Co-director of the Institute for International and Comparative Law in Africa (ICLA), as the incumbent of the SARChI Chair in International Constitutional Law.

The Faculty now boasts two SARChi Chairs as Prof Danny Bradlow is the incumbent of the SARChI Professor of International Development Law and African Economic Relations.

The examination of the legal consequences of the exercise of public power by international organisations such as the United Nations (UN) and the African Union (AU) for states and for those who live within their territories will be central to the research conducted under the auspices of the new research chair.

On 2 September 2015 the Minister of Science and Technology, Mrs Naledi Pandor announced the South African Research Chairs Initiative incumbents. The other three research chairs at UP were awarded to Prof Brenda Wingfield (SARChI Chair in Fungal Genomics), Prof Wanda Markotter (SARChI Chair in Animal Infectious Diseases (zoonoses) and Prof Namrita Lall (SARChI Chair in Indigenous Knowledge Systems).
