Posted on October 28, 2016

The  debut musical production 'Twee hartstale' by Willemien/Philomène Rust, a French lecturer in the Department of Modern European Languages at the University of Pretoria, recently won the national Vrynge prize for best production at the 2016 Freestate Arts Festival. Ms Rust is also an alternative Afrikaans singer-songwriter who values collaboration with different South-African musicians.

The Vrynge is a creative platform for upcoming artists at different arts festivals nationwide. In her prize winning debut musical production Ms Rust collaborates with three talented guest artists - Adelle Nqeto (guitar, voice), James Robb (percussion) and Pieter Bezuidenhout (accordion, harmonies). Both Ms Nqeto and Mr Bezuidenhout are UP alumni. Together they perform her original Afrikaans compositions, well known French chanson as well as French music from West-Africa. Excerpts from her favourite poetry anthologies, which echo the themes of the songs, are also read: Breyten Breytenbach, Antjie Krog, Ingrid Jonker.
