The UP Symphony Orchestra (UPSO) and the UP Symphonic Winds (UPSW) are entities of UP Arts and present platforms for cultural expression and identity at the University of Pretoria. The UPSO has been in existence since the inception of the Department of Music in 1961.

Both ensembles showcase, through their unique repertoires and diverse array of members, the profoundly complex past and present of South Africa, as well as repertoires that encapsulate all facets of music, including Western Art Music and world music. The ambience of the concert hall will be an ever-changing experience for the listener. The ensembles strive to entertain and inspire the audience, and to change their emotional perceptions.
