Ceramics and Related Collections
Humanities Faculty Research Theme
The University of Pretoria holds one of the largest collections of ceramics in South Africa, a significant amount of these coming the Kruger National Park and the World Heritage Site of Mapungubwe. The development of a new specialist ceramic laboratory and engagement with modern potters in southern Africa will help towards understanding how ceramics were made and used in the past.
Project leader Professor Innocent Pikirayi, Head of the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology
