Engineering Community Conference (ECC 2014): 16 October 2014

The annual ECC, hosted by ESTEQ, was held at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria this year.  The conference was targeted at the engineering teams from the various engineering industries to share their experiences and ideas for the management, development, and applications of design simulations.

In her presentation, Lynnette Blignaut’s MEng. focused on her MEng research project on “Discrete Element Modelling for the prediction of the flow behaviour of minus 4mm coal particles during flow through a plane wedge hopper” including the importance of proper material characterization in design simulations.  The project focuses on making use of a discrete element model to assess the degree of handle-ability of coal fines.  Lynnette won the prize for the best presentation in the Structural Mechanics 2 Track.

The Department is proud of its post graduate students such as Lynnette and many others that actively promote the work they are doing at conferences here and abroad.
