Vandeyars hosted two professors from Nebraska-Lincoln

Posted on October 31, 2017

The University of Pretoria has a memorandum of understanding with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln signed in July 2013.  These visiting researchers together with their 12 doctoral students (all of the participants were public school educators) visited seven schools that cut across different quintiles in Gauteng, to observe the schooling system in South Africa; to informally talk to some teachers/learners about what they saw and to get a sense of the South African education system.

The primary purpose was to help the visitors see/visualize the variation among South African classrooms.  Perhaps a paper or two about the design of travel study and its role in comparative education may emanate from these visits. Their programme design would be the primary point of such a paper, but South African schools was the necessary if indirect backdrop.
