Ethics Clearance

Before engaging in any research that uses or gathers personal or sensitive data or involve experiments with humans or animals, approval for such research has to be obtained from the EBIT Faculty Committee for Research Ethics & Integrity. Kindly familiarize yourself with the University Code of Ethics for Scholarly Activitiesbefore submitting an application to this committee.

Please note the following remarks from the Faculty Committee for Research Ethics and Integrity relevant to research that requires ethical committee approval.

  • Applicants may not commence with research before clearance is received from the ethics committee.
  • Conducting research requiring clearance from the ethics committee without approval is a serious offence. In such a case, all data gathered will be null and void and will not be allowed as part of the requirements of a degree (e.g. MEng dissertation or PhD thesis). This is strictly enforced. No ethics clearance will be given ex post facto.
