Economics PhD recipient appointed at the University of Chicago

Posted on April 10, 2014

According to the Becker-Friedman Institute’s website, their programmes foster research in support of the Chicago school of thought, which is exemplified by Gary Becker and Milton Friedman. These two Chicago economists received the Nobel Prize in economics, and the institute is named in honour of their contributions.

Dr Kibambe has been both a lecturer and senior lecturer in UP’s Department of Economics. During that time, he has gained recognition as an outstanding teacher and colleague. He was also a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Chicago, which he completed under the supervision of the late Arnold Zellner.

Dr Kibambe’s research focuses on Marshallian Macroeconometric Models, which are systems of estimating equations underpinned by economic theory. Most recently, he has developed models to evaluate the effect of taxes on economic growth in the US and the effects of research and development spending on the US economy. He will further develop these models during his fellowship.
