The Department of English, in collaboration with the Department of Library Services, invites you to attend our next writer event.

More about our writer: Our writer is the renowned novelist and non-fiction writer and journalist Zukiswa Wanner, who will be reading from her latest novel, London Cape Town Johannesburg.

Ms Wanner is the author of four novels, two nonfiction books and two children's books. Her debut novel, The Madams (2006), was shortlisted for a South African Literary Award. It was followed by Behind Every Successful Man (2008) and Men of the South (2010) which was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Best Book Africa and the Herman Charles Bowman award. London Cape Town Joburg (2014), her last novel won a South African Literary Award. 

Her satirical nonfiction, Maid in SA (2013) and her travel book, Hardly Working (2018) have both been met with acclaim. Jama Loves Bananas (2011) and Refilwe (2014) are her two children's books. Wanner has facilitated writing workshops in Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Germany, US, UK and Denmark. She is a columnist for Mail & Guardian and a 2018 Johannesburg Institute of Advanced Studies (JIAS) Fellow.

Ms Wanner’s novels will be on sale and students can take part in our book raffle.
