Posted on April 24, 2018

After three games Assupol TuksCricket is still unbeaten in the Momentum National Club Championships played in Pretoria, but tomorrow ’s game against Northwest Pukke is going to be the crunch game.

Whoever wins will probably go on to win the tournament. The results of the games between these two teams over the last three years show that it will be a humdinger. Nothing can be taken for granted. The game will be played at TUT.

Before the start of the Tournament Kruger van Wyk (Assupol Tuks coach) said it is going to take an all-out team effort for his team to retain the title they won last year. The players indeed have chosen to take his words to heart. So far in each game, it was different players who came to fore to help the team win.

In Sunday’s first game Assupol Tuks managed to beat Wellington by seven wickets. Miguel Pretorius was the best bowler taking 3/31 while Rubin Hermann scored an unbeaten 67 runs. Hermann was also brilliant as wicketkeeper doing two stumpings as well as making a catch.

Assupol Tuks won the game against Yorkshire by 162 runs. The winning team’s batsmen were in devastating form scoring 311/9. Jiveshan Pillay was at his best getting 113 runs from 127 balls. Neil Brand (captain) scored an aggressive 72 runs from 66 balls while Ruan de Swardt clubbed in with an unbeaten 43 runs (32 balls).

Gideon Peters played the role of the destroyer with the ball taking 6/34. Pretorius took 2/14. Hermann had another excellent day behind the stumps making three catches.

In their third game, Assupol Tuks beat the University of Fort Hare by nine wickets. Brand led from the front taking 4/14. He was well assisted by De Swardt who took 3/15. Herman made four catches.

Pillay (41 runs of 45 balls) and Tony de Zorzi (an unbeaten 58 of 47 balls) wasted no time in chasing the required score of 106 runs down to win.

Pukke beat Yorkshire by 103 runs and outplayed the Crusaders to win by 81 runs. The danger man in their team is undoubtedly Jean Bredenkamp who has got scores of 152 and 95 so far.
