JCP-students and the students from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign worked together community projects

The past recess three engineering students from the University Illinois Urbana-Champaign with some of the students enrolled in the Community-based Project Module (JCP), the compulsory undergraduate module of the Faculty Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology.

The first week two of the student’s week with a group of JCP-students at Wollies Animal Shelter, in Akasia in Pretoria North. The students created various platforms for the visitors to sit on in the dog enclosures as well as upgrading the area where guest can take dogs for a walk. One of the students assisted with the career guidance project of the Faculty, the EBIT week. The students were mentors for learners who would like to study engineering at the University of Pretoria.

The second week the three students worked with a group of JCP students at Lory Park Animal Zoo Park in Midrand. The students created a herb garden in die Zoo and helped with various other maintenance projects.

The experience was so positive that they indicated that they would like to do community work again and found it very interesting to work together.
