Ties with Russia strengthened further

Posted on June 14, 2017

Dr Paul Smit from the Department of Human Resource Management was invited by the embassy of the Russian Federation in South Africa to attend the celebration of Russian Day in Pretoria on 8 June 2017.
Russian Day is a public holiday in Russia and celebrates the adoption of the current Russian constitution in 1992 at the end of the Soviet era. The function was attended by dignitaries from different foreign embassies in South Africa and government officials. It also coincided with the 25 year celebration of formal diplomatic relations between South Africa and Russia.

The invitation was brought about by the extensive network of researchers that Dr Smit has built up at three Russian universities, namely the Moscow State University, National Research University’s Higher School of Economics in Moscow and St Petersburg, as well as the Kutafin State Law University in Moscow. These contacts were the result of papers delivered by Dr Smit at international conferences in Russia since 2014.

From 10 to 12 September 2017, Dr Smit will give two lectures at two universities in Moscow, and from 13 to 15 September 2017 he will be chairing a track at an International BRICS Business and Innovation Conference in St Petersburg, where he will also deliver a paper.
