Disciplinary perspectives on resilience: How do human and ecological systems interact to adapt to risk when the need is high and resources are limited?

The Centre for the Study of Resilience invites you to a colloquium aimed at sharing disciplinary perspectives, conceptualising transdisciplinary knowledge on resilience in the Global South, and highlighting important aspects of different disciplines relating to resilience in postcolonial transforming societies when the risk is high, resources are constrained and the need for adaptation is chronic.

Plenary papers are presented by Dr Linda Liebenberg (Adjunct Professor: Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada) and Dr Melissa McHale (Assistant Professor: North Carolina State University, Raleigh, USA). Dr Liebenberg will speak on psychological resilience, and Dr McHale on ecological resilience.

Further perspectives on resilience from other disciplines will be presented by Prof Chrisna du Plessis (Associate Professor: Department of Construction Economics, University of Pretoria), Ms Marlene Ogawa (Programme Manager: Synergos Institute, South Africa), Mr Renald Morris (Project Manager: Synergos Institute, South Africa), and Mr André Viviers (Education Specialist: UNICEF, South Africa).

In conclusion a panel discussion on the topic will be held in which all the speakers will take part, and time for questions will be allowed.
