Boukunde Evacuation Celebration

Posted on August 22, 2017

July 2017 saw the evacuation of our department’s building, Boukunde, in anticipation of the building’s revamps.

In order to celebrate the evacuation of the building and to raise funds for the upcoming revamps, the department hosted a fundraiser for its students, staff and friends of Boukunde.  The vertical studio programme for 2017 was integrated into the celebration, with students across various years and programmes collaborating to contribute to the exhibition that formulated the attraction for this event.

Thomashoff + Partner Architects are behind the design of the new revamps.  Some of the items under construction include the addition of a lift; new, gender neutral bathrooms; a new air conditioning system; smoke detection and ventilation.  Polyflor has generously sponsored new flooring for the reading room.

The event was accompanied by a campus tour by University of Pretoria’s landscape architect, Neal Dunstan.

Swatch samples of the prints from the Department’s Heritage Archive Macintosh and Eaton collections auctioned to raise funds.
