The Produce Marketing Association invests in the future of Agricultural Economics students

Posted on August 30, 2017

As the University of Pretoria’s top Agricultural Economics students in 2016, Jodie Vosloo and Koketso Mokoditoa had the privilege to attend the Career Pathways Program. This program, hosted by the Centre for Growing talent by PMA and funded by AgriSETA as well as sponsors and donors of the Centre was arranged during the annual PMA Fresh Connections Conference and Trade Show in Cape Town between the 15th and the 17th of August 2017. The Career Pathways Program envisions to create the opportunity for the brightest minds at selected universities around the country to rub shoulders with notable members of the fresh produce industry.

In the interest of learning, Jodie and Koketso attended keynote addresses, career panels and workshops to broaden their knowledge on the challenges and opportunities faced by the fresh produce industry. Jodie and Koketso felt privileged and excited to have Anton Kruger of the Fresh Produce Exporters Forum, and Piet Prinsloo of ZZ2 as their respective mentors. These mentors were always ready to answer pertinent questions and introduce the impressionable youngsters to influential industry leaders. The students also had the opportunity to network with both young and experienced professionals in leadership positions in the fresh produce value chain. These and other networking opportunities helped them gain valuable skills in networking and communication. These soft skills are invaluable when pursuing a career as an Agricultural Economist.

This experience, hosted by the Centre for Growing talent and funded by the PMA, heightened Jodie and Koketso’s passion for South African agricultural and they are excited to get started on fruitful careers in the agricultural sector.
