About the Department

The Department of University Relations (DUR) was officially constituted in September 2012, the outcome of a process of aligning support service departments functionally with the University’s strategic plan, UP 2025. The Department comprises the formerly independent TuksAlumni office, the Department of Institutional Advancement, the Department of Communications and Marketing, as well as aspect of the Department of International Relations. The DUR comprises two divisions, namely, Communications and Marketing and Advancement whose functions are integrated to provide a comprehensive service to the University. Advancement comprises Alumni Relations and Fundraising, while Communications and Marketing provides a branding and advertising service, organises corporate events, is responsible for corporate publications and manages media relations, internal communication and a public relations function. The Department has a complement of 39 staff members. It reports directly to the Vice-Chancellor and Principal.
