Research @ Centre for Environmental Studies
Research activities in the Centre for Environmental Studies are almost always of a multidisciplinary nature. Several research projects have a prominent human component as well as a biodiversity component.
Currently the Centre is involved in two collaborative project, each involving several organisations. These act as umbrellas for research, involving a number of postgraduate students. These are:
- The Lubombu Transfrontier Sustainable Livelihoods Project takes place in the Lubombo Transfrontier Conservation Area (TFCA), located on the common boundaries of Mocambique, Swaziland and SouthAfrica. The project aims to improve biodiversity conservation through promoting sustainable livelihoods in the rural communities that live in that area. Click here for more information...
- The Mariepskop Long Term Observation Site monitors the effects of long term climate change on the physical, biodiversity and social environments of the Mpumalanga and Limpopo Drakensberg escarpment near Mariepskop, a prominent peak in that mountain range. Click here for more information...
- The Centre for Environmental Studies organised a workshop on biodiversity in production landscapes that coincided with the DIVERSITAS OSC2 meeting in Cape Town during October 2009. Several international experts contributed to the workshop. Click here to see what the workshop entailed.
