Seven hundred UP staff members participated in the first Mini-Olympics of 2015!

On 18 March 2015 the University of Pretoria held its Autumn Mini-Olympics on the Groenkloof Campus. The event forms part of the UP Corporate Wellness Programme, which lays the foundation for the health and well-being of staff members.

About 700 UP staff members participated in various events such as Zumba, soccer, volleyball and team relays. We believe that the UP Corporate Wellness Programme will succeed as a result of the support of senior level staff, combined with a high degree of employee engagement in healthy behaviour.

Various health information desks were located adjacent to the event registration desks. Staff were advised to undergo health checks prior to and after participation in sports events. This step enabled health practitioners to detect any warning signs of disease and advise individuals on how to improve their health and prevent emergency disease situations from arising. As a result, medical expenditure on conditions such as heart disease, cancer and stroke will be reduced since employees will become healthier.
