This year’s lecture titled 'How do you stop being often an ad-hoc, poorly informed spectator in areas that are full of opportunity and/or risk for you in today’s fast-changing, interconnected world?' will be presented by Peter Staude, Chief Executive Officer of Tongaat Hulett Limited.

Date: Wednesday, 27 September 2017

Time: 17:30

Venue: Senate Hall, Administration Building, Hatfield Campus, University of Pretoria

RSVP: Click here to respond by Friday, 22 September 2017.

Please note that since only a limited number of seats are available, your prompt response is required to avoid disappointment.

In his interactive lecture, Peter Staude will explore how and where in today's fast-changing and increasingly interconnected world the appropriate flexible boundaries should be drawn in respect of one's understanding, and the impact of and aspirations regarding influence, which will ultimately lead to beyond a company's hierarchy.

Are there areas for you or your organisation full of opportunities and/or risks and in which you fit the description of being an ad-hoc, poorly informed spectator whilst a more desirable profile would be one of being an active participant and influencer? Are you sometimes, by default, drifting into too many areas where you should not be?

Drawing on his extensive experience, Peter will give practical advice on the topic, including advice on how to deal with the complexity presented by an increasing number of interfaces outside of your own organisation.

He will also focus on the importance of bringing the development of science and technology more in tandem with the social challenges we face, and on possible way in which this might be accomplished, including those that result from South Africa's own socio-economic journey.

Staude was a lecturer in Industrial Engineering at the University in 1976 and 1977. Later, from 1996 to 2002, he was the managing director of Hulamin, during which time the company received a State President's Award for being South Africa's top export company. Since 2002, he has been the CEO of Tongaat Hulett, which employs some 38 000 people in six countries and has a proud reputation of creating value for all stakeholders through an all-inclusive approach to growth and development in the region. He is also a former Chairman of Trade and Investment KZN.

Staude is an acknowledged leader in the field of innovative change and privately practices as an executive coach.
