Public lecture: Malaria captures the headlines in 2017

Prof Tiaan de Jager, Director of the University of Pretoria Institute for Sustainable Malaria Control (UP ISMC), cordially invites you to a public presentation by Prof Lucille Blumberg from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD).

Title: 'Malaria captures the headlines in 2017'

Prof Blumberg trained at the University of the Witwatersrand and was working in paediatrics and critical care at Baragwanath Hospital in Johannesburg when she discovered and became intrigued by the world of microbes, tropical diseases and zoonoses. She subsequently worked at the Tropical Diseases Hospital in Johannesburg, where she treated patients with various tropical diseases. She qualified as a microbiologist and later joined the newly established National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD). She is currently the Deputy Director of the NICD and heads the Public Health Surveillance and Response Division. Her special interests are tropical diseases, travel medicine, malaria, the viral haemorrhagic fevers and rabies.
